We take ice cream seriously.

Scoop 411 is a curated field guide to the best ice cream shops in the United States. Every entry is chosen for one reason: the scoop is worth traveling for.

The Scoop 411 story, one cone at a time

01

We start with the crowd.

Yelp and Google reviews give us the raw pool β€” shops with sustained love from actual customers, not press releases.

02

We check the sourcing.

Real dairy, real fruit, in-house bases. If it's a franchise pumping soft-serve from a mix, it doesn't make the cut.

03

We taste. Repeatedly.

Every listed shop has been visited or vetted by someone who cares more about ice cream than they should.

Chris Paul, founder of Scoop 411

Chris Paul

Chris is 61, a married father of four, and the chief scoop scout behind Scoop 411. For the last 60 years, every trip β€” family vacations, work travel, weekend getaways β€” has included a stop at the local ice cream shop. He's lived in Los Angeles, Boston, Phoenix, San Francisco, Las Vegas, and Nashville, and now splits time between Irvine, CA and the Twin Cities. His day job takes him to Chicago, New York, Seattle, Miami, Dallas, Denver, and beyond, but he always skips the hotel bar in favor of a neighborhood scoop shop.

The retail chains are fine β€” Dairy Queen, HΓ€agen-Dazs, Van Leeuwen β€” but Chris prefers the small-to-medium shops where the owner is often behind the counter. For decades, the Paul family has kept score. Scoop 411 is where those notes finally live.
